How to Plan Your CMA Final Attempt? - Balancing Practical Training with Classes.

Every year, around 4000 CMA students pass their CMA exams, with many achieving All India Ranks (AIRs) and outstanding marks. However, many students, although scoring well,  miss out on receiving a rank since they only attempt a single group. When questioned about this decision, they often share regret, blaming a lack of guidance or advice.

In this blog, we hope to provide thorough guidance for CMA final students on how to plan their attempts, manage practical training, set the sequence of the classes, and guide you further from where should you take classes. Our purpose is to assist you in planning your CMA final attempt successfully so that you can concentrate simply on studying. Let's dive into the details.

1. How to Plan Your CMA Final Attempt with Your Practical Training?

After receiving your results, it's time to plan your CMA final attempt while considering your practical training. Take your time to decide which attempt you want to give and whether you're comfortable with both groups or prefer a single group due to practical training.

To start, focus on SCM and SFM, as these subjects help develop analytical and mathematical skills. Since these subjects are also studied in CMA Inter, you may find them familiar and easier to grasp.

If you haven't started practical training, consider beginning your classes then. Allocate 2.5 months to study SCM and SFM, attending two classes of each subject per day. By the end of this period, you should have completed both subjects. After completing these subjects, you can then proceed with your practical training.

When juggling practical training and CMA classes, it's easy to become lazy with your studies. If you haven't started your practical training yet, prioritize attending classes first. While doing so, work on your CV and apply for training opportunities through the institute portal or directly to companies/firms to avoid missing out.

Since CMA practical training lasts for 15 months, it can be challenging to study during this period. We recommend focusing on completing two subjects within these 15 months. By the end of your practical training, you should have completed the classes for all four subjects—two before starting training and two alongside it. This schedule should be completed by September 2025, giving you time to decide whether to opt for both groups or just a single group for the December 2025 term. If you choose a single group, use the three months before December for revisions and exams.

If you plan to take both groups, start taking classes for the second group and complete them by January 2026. Use the four months leading up to June 2026 term for revision before taking the exams.

2. What Should be the Sequence of CMA Final Classes?

When planning your CMA final classes, it's important to follow a specific sequence for effective learning. Start with group 3 classes first, if you are opting for one group at a time then Begin with SCM, then SFM, followed by Law, and finish with Direct Taxation. It's recommended to leave Direct Taxation classes for last due to frequent amendments, ensuring you have the most up-to-date information when you study this subject.

If you're planning to take both groups, the sequence of classes should be as follows:

  • SFM, SCM

  • CFR and Company Audit

  • Law and SPMBV

  • DT and IDT

Following this sequence will help you build a strong foundation and manage the workload effectively.
